The Ridge

Time Frames: November 2021

Architect: archaus Architect

Façade Engineers: Oculus

Structural Engineers: Silvester Clark

Main Contractor: Cedar Contracting

In early November 2020, the developers of this private apartment approached our team to investigate the recent innovation of the Grappler unitised balcony system and thought it an excellent opportunity to access our technology.

Interestingly, we had previously worked with archaus Architects on other projects. But for us, being invited in on the early design stage meant we had a fantastic insight into the expected outcomes of this project.

A building with crisp lines, concrete block construction, and tight site lines in places required an out-of-the-box solution to make the Grappler system work.

By liaising with the structural engineers at Oculus, we developed a new patent-pending connection system that clips onto the external façade wall. We incorporated features such as free-draining soffits. An innovation brought about by the balconies footprint.

This unique design required extra scrutiny during the manufacturing process and our partners, Mulcahy Engineering, worked with the latest manufacturing design software platforms to make this happen.

In collaboration with archaus Architects, our design team could integrate our concepts into the architectural Revit model. We made last-minute adjustments to details before and sometimes during manufacturing to create an engineering masterpiece.

These Balconies also came with powered coated, solid balustrade walls and Wood Plastic Composite flooring.

Cedar contracting made the construction program work perfectly, and our system allowed the early elimination of scaffolding and tower cranes from the site.

On this project, we installed 42 balconies over approximately 18 hrs.

We think you will agree the finished building looks fantastic.
