Raising the bar
A good balustrade will provide form and function, strength and safety. A great one will do it to with grace and enduring refinement, not just fitting the space but enhancing it. And it will be delivered on site on time, to budget and with millimetre-perfect installation. An Attaché balustrade is unequivocally a great balustrade.

Our Story
It has been a journey of measured paces and bold leaps across the decades. Now, with the arrival of BelCanto Group, we step ahead once more.
The origins of our company started back in the 1980s when a small New Zealand engineering business began manufacturing steel fencing and gates for swimming pools.
The company thrived, winning new work and contracts regularly. However we were not comfortable with coasting along. After researching lead times and product life-spans we made the leap from steel to aluminium in the 90s and, with our team of designers, engineers and project managers, stepped up into the commercial sector.
Here we increased our market presence with new product lines and manufacturing expertise. By the early 2000s we were well placed as one of New Zealand’s premier aluminium fabricators and in 2011 opened a purpose built factory and powder-coating plant in Levin.
…‘beautiful’ covers a lot
of ground within our
ethos. Yes, it is the final
result. But so too is it
the process….
With the two distinct divisions of the company requiring specific attention and support the big decision was made as the decade drew to a close to separate into new brands and businesses.
Urban Group continued on with the fencing, gates and automation sphere. BelCanto Group was established to focus all of our balustrade, balcony and façade business.
Now we are in the 20s and are on the front foot once more, building New Zealand’s beautiful. Here, ‘beautiful’ covers a lot of ground within our ethos. Yes, it is the final result. But so too is it the process. Pragmatic efficiency is beautiful. Effective innovation is beautiful.
A lot has changed within the industry over the last three decades – and this rate of change looks set to accelerate. We will maintain pace with the industry and the needs of our clients, delivering pioneering solutions that ensure New Zealand’s built environment can continue to connect, protect and uplift its people.
Looking back we are proud of our history, of the projects completed and the relationships forged. Looking forward, we are excited with the opportunities ahead. This is an exhilarating time to be working smarter and harder for our buildings, our towns, our cities and our communities. With a hugely experienced team, innovative business partners and our wide-ranging expertise we aspire to a beautiful tomorrow.

The Team
William Stewart
Arrived: First started in on the factory floor, welding and fabricating back in 2003.
Since then: Has been growing with the business, moving into installation and production before taking a larger role in management and making bold moves with the formation of BelCanto Group and the development of our range of industry-leading brands.
Now: William’s busy overseeing new commercial projects, working with a wide range of designers, architects, developers and visionaries both here at BCG and around New Zealand.
Tomorrow: He’ll be equally busy both at work and at home, raising a young family, staying fit out trail running, loving the chance to move ahead on new paths and new projects.
Darby Stewart
Shows: Expert awareness of plans, products and people, ensuring Belcanto Group can ensure the process on every project is perfectly suited to the end goals of our clients.
Knows: The construction industry inside and out thanks to his previous career experience as a qualified builder and with the years since working at the family business.
Maxs: Project management outcomes, thanks to an unwavering focus on critical paths, health and safety and ongoing client satisfaction. With a no-nonsense, get-it-done approach he’ll deliver the goods.
Relaxes: By going fishing and enjoying rugby and cricket. A fine bourbon every now and then doesn’t go amiss either.
Patrick Kendrick
Business Development Manager
Nothing: But the best will do. Patrick is ambitious both for our work and the success of our clients. With his personal drive and collaborative attitude he is always focused on the right result.
Succeeds: Thanks to prodigious experience gained through 25 years working in sales and marketing in the architectural, engineering and construction industries Patrick arrived here up with the play and ready to get down to business.
Like: It is a new era with both incredible opportunities and challenges, Patrick’s technical expertise and insightful acumen ensures we can deliver the former without getting caught up in the latter.
Success: Away from the office is measured in different KPIs, be it kilometres on the bike, the size of the fish caught or the ongoing happiness of his teenage children.
Marc Schultz
Project Manager
In the past: The work has covered a range of roles first in South Africa and now in New Zealand. A qualified plumber by trade, Marc has since gone on to gain certification in a wide variety of key engineering, safety and project management areas.
Recently: Marc has been putting his creative, coordinating and critical thinking skills to great use ensuring our work is top-notch. Here, with attention to detail and unwavering focus, he has made every post a winner since joining our team in 2020.
Right now: If it’s work hours you’ll undoubtedly find Marc busy and focused on the task at hand overseeing progress and process on site. When he’s not flat out at work you might find him spending quality time with his children, be it with relaxing fishing or not-quite-so-relaxing rugby.
In the future: No doubt he’ll continue to further build valuable experience and increase his burgeoning skillset.
Saba Hamidi
Design Technician
Clever: After gaining a Bachelor of Architecture in Shiraz, Iran, Saba has since gone on to add further qualifications and expertise as her design career advances apace.
Creative: In both the approach to the work and the results it delivers, she provides high quality architectural drawings, concept design and 3D modelling and rendering.
Capable: With considerable technical skill Saba ensures we can quickly and assuredly deliver on our client’s vision and, in doing so, make certain the aesthetic matches the objective.
Committed: To enhancing her expertise and pushing herself further with challenging new projects. Saba also knows the importance of a work-life balance, personal artworks and charitable teaching endeavours equally rewarding to her.
Janlyn Robertson
Marketing Co-ordinator
Background: After growing up in South Africa, Janlyn set out to hone and grow her I.T skills with a corporate career leading from London to Dubai and now, luckily for us, to New Zealand.
Forefront: She leads the way here with a get-it-done mindset and an always-ready-with-a-smile (or loud laugh) approach to the work.
Main work: With a helpful mix of experience to draw from it’s safe to say she’s quickly become our ‘Jan of all trades’, ensuring the company can communicate with alacrity, clarity and confidence across all marketing materials.
Mane work: As a passionate horse lover Jan also runs an online store for beautiful equine products, sponsors two Kiwi equestrian athletes and is always busy with her horses and dogs at home.
